Marriage, according to Indian philosophy is a Sanskar or Sacrament. It is not only a religious duty but also a social obligation towards family and community. It is an amalgamation of two families – that of the bride groom and the bride. Dharma, virtue, progeny and pleasure are the four pillars of this Sanskar. 	Tara : This is the relationship of the constellations between the bride and the groom. If favorable marriages are considered to be successful.
	Yoni : This reflects sexual adaptability between the partners.
	Graha Mitra : It is considered that if the planets in the horoscope of both the bride and groom are friendly with each other, the marriage lasts long and is happy and successful.
	Gana : The nakshtras/ constellations are divided in three groups according to their nature namely Deva, Manushya, Rakshash. The partnership with the same group is considered to be the best, between Devas and Rakshas medium and between Manushya and Rakshash, the worst.
	Bhakoot : This is the relationship between the zodiac signs in which the bride and the groom’s moon is situated. The two twelve, six eight relationships are not considered inauspicious.
	Nadi : This is based on the temperament of the asterisms. There are three types of Nadis, Aadi, Madhya and Antya. If the nadi’s are same, more particularly the madhya nadi and the prospective bride and groom are born in the same constellation the marriages are not compatible.
